Arizona is full of beautiful engagement photo spots. From the Grand Canyon to Watson Lake, photographers all over the Valley have captured the best the state offers. However, one of the questions I get a lot is, what are some of the best engagement photos photo spots in Phoenix?
Phoenix has some incredible locations where you can get some of the best photos that capture your newly engaged love. Whether looking for something calm and tranquil like the Japanese Friendship Garden or something more modern like the warehouse district, the Valley has something for everyone.
But before I discuss my favorite engagement photo spots in Phoenix, I’d like to outline what you should look for in an engagement photo location.
What Makes a Good Engagement Photo Location
As much as I would love to dive into the list, we need to set some ground rules before we do.
Rule Number 1: Pick a Location that Fits You As a Couple
While this may seem a no-brainer, choosing an engagement photo location should match you and your partner. Often, I see couples get so excited to be engaged that they look for engagement photos on Pinterest, which is excellent, but other people’s styles can sometimes influence our own.
It would help if you found a style that matches your own. If you like earthy and bright, great; many locations fit that vibe. However, if you prefer something more subdued and serene, you don’t want a location that doesn’t match that style.
Rule Number 2: Golden Hour is Everything
Why do the photos you take at noon differ from those at sunset? That’s because of the Golden Hour, which happens twice daily: the first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset.
Photographers covet this time because the light is naturally diffused and comes at an angle. It’s hard to mess up photos during this time, which is why we love it!

This rule isn’t so much a rule as a suggestion. Don’t get me wrong; I’m all for expressing yourself however you choose, but something to think about is that you want these photos to last a long time. As much as I am here for all the fashion trends, they don’t always last.

If there’s one rule I want you to follow, it’s this one. Not everyone is comfortable getting their photos taken, and that’s ok! The key is to make your engagement photo shoot fun. How do you do that? You ignore that feeling in your head that you are awkward, don’t know how to pose, or feel silly. Scottsdale Civic Center
Why You Will Love It: When most people from out of town think of Phoenix, they think of Scottsdale. With its old-town vibe and high-end retailers, there’s a lot to love if you’re visiting. But if you’re a photographer, the Scottsdale Civic Center is one of the best engagement photo spots Scottsdale has to offer.
The Scottsdale Civic Center is home to the famous LOVE sculpture, acres of green parks, and freshly manicured desert landscaping. Let’s not forget, if you’re looking for extra libations to get the poses just right, Old Town Scottsdale has plenty of watering holes to get the party started.
The Vibe: The Scottsdale Civic Center is perfect for wide-angle shots. With tons of space to work with, there are plenty of options for wide-angle photography in the grassy parks, near the public art, and, of course, with the LOVE sculpture.
Papago Park

Why You Will Love It: Papago Park has standout photo areas from the Hole in the Rock, the Phoenix Zoo, and the Desert Botanical Garden. This location is the one if you’re looking for an area to cross off many different style photos.
Papago Park is home to many saguaros, picnic ramadas, and distinctive red sandstone. This area is also home to the Papago Ponds, a great place to get some excellent photos with a water feature.
The Vibe: If you’re not going to venture into the Desert Botanical Gardens or the Phoenix Zoo and stick strictly to the park itself, Papago Park will provide you with earthy red tones that fit the classic Arizona Desert photography.
Japanese Friendship Garden
Why You Will Love It: If earthy desert photography isn’t your tea, the Japanese Friendship Garden is the perfect place. The Japanese Friendship Garden is home to the greenest greens in Phoenix, with beautifully manicured walkways that play well into engagement photography.

The Vibe: The Desert Botanical Gardens is perfect for those looking for quintessential desert photography with lots of cactus. While I love some areas the Desert Botanical Garden has for great photography, it can feel slightly one-dimensional, with many similar locations. Nothing is wrong with that look and feel; it’s something to note as you plan your engagement photography.
Sahuaro Ranch Park
Why You Will Love It: When thinking about engagement photography spots, even the natives think mostly about Scottsdale and central Phoenix; however, Glendale’s Sahuaro Ranch Park is a gem that should not be ignored. Lost Dutchman State Park
Why You Will Love It: Not all desert photography reads the same, so Lost Dutchman State Park is a must for desert photography. This state park is unique because of its incredible view of the Superstition Mountains. Photographers like myself love this area because it adds height and depth to wide-angle engagement photos.
The Vibe: Lost Dutchman State Park is earthy and vast. If you’re interested in desert photography, I suggest adding it to your checklist.
Verrado
Why You Will Love It: Verrado differs from the others mentioned above. It’s not a park or a destination but rather a neighborhood in Buckeye. Verrado is full of parks throughout the neighborhood and has a charming main street.
The Vibe: Verrado is all about small-town charm. Verrado is your choice if you want engagement photos on luscious grass, charming park benches, or seated in front of quant fountains.
When it comes to engagement photo locations in Phoenix, I could go on and on. I didn’t even get into some of the other great places like Roosevelt Row, Old Town Chandler, Coons Bluff, or Riparian Preserve.
